I continue to have problems with NetBackup. Really strange problems. For example, one of my backup jobs is sending out, on average, 300 success emails per night for three clients. I don’t understand what’s going on and neither, it seems, does Symantec technical support.

I need to move a Mailman installation from one Linux server to another. I found a link detailing how to do it, and I just realized there’s no “but,” as in “but I can’t follow those instructions because the moon is not in the house of Capricorn,” as I surely would if this had been a Windows server.

salmon hatchlings updates that I have to investigate. What do they fix, but more important, what do they break? Microsoft should change its name to Glass Half-Empty, Inc.
In other news, I’m back helping answering technical support telephone calls. I’d quite happily forgotten how utterly dumb people who, a few hours before, drove their cars to work.

I have a hypothesis that if I gave two newbie users who’d never worked on computers one computer each—one computer with Windows, the other with MacOS—tutored them in the general operation of each machine then turned them out on their own for one year, the Windows user will end up knowing more about using their computer than the MacOS user.
By the way, I’d have to restort to recruiting two-year-olds to find stark newbies at this point!
Anyone care to speculate why?
